No sé si lo sabréis, pero estamos en el Año de la Química. 2005 fue el de la física, conmemorando el centenario del año prodigioso de Einstein. Para la química, la efemérides elegida fue el centenario del Nobel de Química a Marie Curie. Una mujer científica, quizá LA mujer científica por antonomasia. Simbólicamente al menos, Marie Curie es para la química lo que Albert Einstein para la física.
Sin embargo (o quizá por ello), hay quienes deciden organizar eventos titulados " Mujeres en la Química", como es el caso del Maratón Científico que tendrá lugar el próximo 27 de octubre en el Museo de Ciencia y Tecnología de Madrid. En el folleto del mismo encontramos las siguientes preguntas:
"¿Se puede enseñar química partiendo de los saberes acumulados de las mujeres? ¿Qué relación tiene la química con actividades cotidianas como las que se desarrollan en la cocina?"
Pues sí, parece ser que los eventos "las mujeres en la ciencia" son bastante más necesarios de lo que uno querría pensar, con Marie Curie o sin ella. Por lo menos hasta que a ningún ceporro se le ocurra hilar esas dos preguntas en un folleto destinado a publicitar la presencia femenina en la ciencia (o cualquier otro ámbito de la actividad social).
La charla "La química en la cocina" de la Dra Nuria Solsona Pairó promete ser interesante, porque es un tema interesante, pero también porque su inclusión en una jornada centrada en el papel de la mujer lo convierte en un tópico sexista. Prueben a leer de nuevo el título. ¿En qué piensan, en reacciones químicas en los fogones o en una señora química con mandil en vez de bata y con el bollo recién horneado, cual foto de campaña de Rajoy?

Pues yo seguí el camino contrario: primero me saqué el título de ingeniera industrial química y luego, cuando me fui de casa de mis padres, me planteé que de algo deberían servirme mis conocimientos en la cocina.

Cuando he leído la pregunta y el artículo he pensado enseguida en la importancia de saber mantener la salud de tu familia por medio de los alimentos.
Aunque muchos no lo crean, una mujer que sepa alimentar a su familia y haga comidas sanas es capaz de mantener la salud de los suyos. Eso vale más que todas las carreras quimicas o físicas de cualquier mujer.
La mujer que tiene una carrera y después está demasiado cansada para hacer comida sana y natural para su familia, termina dándoles en su lugar comida envasada, desequilibrada, o comida basura.
Eso lo veo diariamente aqui en los Estados Unidos. Los niños están cada día mas enfermos y descuidados. Eso sí, muchas de estas madres tienen buenas carreras, buenas casas, buenos coches, y buenas vacaciones.
Hay una epidemia de enfermedades infantiles, desde alergias, diabetes, problemas sicológicos, y hasta cancer.
La mejor quimica es la de los alimentos en nuestro cuerpo, sabiendo combinarlos para tener salud. Es una verdadera ciencia.
Además de esto, por medio de los alimentos se puede recobrar la salud perdída.

Paleo, no malmetas que Logos77 lo sabe todo de todo.
A mí lo de los protocolos experimentales siempre me han recordado un poco a la cocina, con la diferencia de que siguiendo un protocolo al pie de la letra te puede permitir obtener un DNA de una gran pureza, pero igual no te quedan tan bien unas alubias con chorizo.
Y hablando de cocina, química y chorizos me viene a la mente el Basque Culinary Center, una manera de sacar los cuartos a la I+D para que algunos se cuelguen unas medallas.

Mi madre fue (es) admiradora de Mme. Curie y, siendo yo niña, me leía su biografía.
De la que recuerdo un párrafo donde, cuando regulaba la llama para cocer el puchero, enseñaba a su hija ¿Irène? a que el borde de la llama no sobrepasara los límites del recipiente para no desperdiciar el calor, de la misma manera que le enseñaba a mantenerlos tapados luego de cocidos. Todo con la misma precisión que luego en el laboratorio regulaba el mechero.
