This course aims at providing the necessary background to understand the
basic concepts from comparative and evolutionary biology that are frequently
used in molecular biology and bioinformatics analyses.
The course consists in five full-day sessions with an adequate balance between
theory and computer practice, oriented to solve frequent problems and
hypothesis testing. The course includes a session of phylogenomic analysis
and functional annotation including the most recent developments in this
area. Among other tools, attendees will get familiar with Phylip, Phyml,
PAML, TreePuzzle, MrBayes, Modeltest, programs and tools developed in our
department such as Phylemon, FatiGO, FatiScan, and ETE. The course is mainly
intended for professionals in the field of biology and chemistry who work on
areas related to biological sequence analysis. The course fee is 300 euros
and includes meals, a limited number of grants will be available.
